Refrigerant Oil Addition

NOTE: A new service replacement compressor contains 7 oz. of refrigerant oil.

1. Drain and measure oil from old compressor.
2. Drain oil from new compressor into clean measuring device.
a. If 3-5 oz were drained from old compressor, add equal amount plus 1 oz of new oil to new compressor.
b. If more than 5 oz were drained from old compressor, add equal amount of new oil to new compressor.
c. If less then 3 oz was drained from old compressor, add 3 oz to new compressor.
3. When other air conditioning system components are replaced, add the following quantities of refrigerant oil:
a. Accumulator: same amount drained from old accumulator plus 2 oz.
b. Evaporator core: 3 oz.
c. Condenser: 1 oz.
4. Add 2 oz of new oil after replacing other system components such as hoses, evaporator core orifice, cycling switch, compressor pressure relief valve and pressure cutoff switch, or following minor repairs such O-ring, port, compressor shaft seal and hose leaks.
