PINPOINT TEST J: EATC HEATER BLOWER MOTOR DOES NOT RUN

J1 CHECK BLOWER MOTOR OPERATION

- Ignition switch to RUN, select MAX A/C.

- Does blower motor operate?

- Yes
Perform EATC On-Board Diagnostics. Refer to pinpoint test A.

- No
Go to J2.

J2 BYPASS BLOWER MOTOR SPEED CONTROL

- Disconnect harness connector C169 from A/C blower motor speed control.
- Ignition to RUN.
- Jump between Pin C169-4, Circuit 515 (OR) or Pin C169-1, Circuit 57 (BK).

- Does blower motor operate at high speed?

- Yes
Go to J6.

- No
Remove jumper and go to J3.

J3 CHECK A/C BLOWER MOTOR SPEED CONTROL GROUND

- Using an ohmmeter connected to a known good ground, connect second lead to Pin C169-1, Circuit 57 (BK) at blower motor speed control connector.
- Measure resistance.

- Is resistance 5 ohms or less?

- Yes
Go to J4.

- No
Service circuit 57 (BK) for open circuit. Retest system.

J4 CHECK BLOWER SUPPLY

- Disconnect blower motor connector C167.
- Ignition to RUN.
- Using a voltmeter, check for B+ at Circuit 181 (BR/O) of blower motor connector.

- Is there B+?

- Yes
Go to J5.

- No
Service fuse 10 (30A) for Town Car or fuse 9 (30A) for Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis or circuit 181 (BR/O) for open or short. Retest system.

J5 CHECK CIRCUIT 515 (O/R)

- Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of Circuit 515 (O/R) between blower motor connector and Pin C169-4 of A/C blower motor speed control connector.

- Is resistance 5 ohms or less?

- Yes
Replace blower motor. Retest system.

- No
Service circuit 515 (O/R) for open circuit. Retest system.

J8 CHECK VOLTAGE BETWEEN PINS 1 AND 2

- Disconnect harness connector C169 from A/C blower motor speed control.
- Check voltage between Pin C169-1, Circuit 57 (BK) and Pin C169-2, Circuit 758 (PK/W) for Town Car or Pin C169-2, Circuit 754 (LG/W) for Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis of harness connector with thumbwheel set to HI.

- Is there B+?

- Yes
Replace A/C blower motor speed control. Retest system.

- No
Go to J7.

J7 CHECK CIRCUIT

- Disconnect EATC module connector C281 for Town Car or C228 for Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis.
- Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between blower motor connector Pin C169-2 and Pin C281-9, Circuit 758 (PK/W) for Town Car or Pin C228-9, Circuit 754 (LG/W) for Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis of EATC module.

- Is there 5 ohms or less?

- Yes
Replace EATC module. Retest system.

- No
Service circuit 758 (PK/W) for Town Car or circuit 754 (LG/W) for Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis for open circuit. Retest system.
