Pinpoint Test FA: Backup Lamps Inoperative

FA1 - Check Supply At Transmission Range (TR) Sensor

- Turn ignition switch to the RUN position.

NOTE: Make sure engine is not running.

- Gain access to transmission range (TR) sensor.
- Using a voltmeter connected to a known good ground, check circuit 298 (P/O) pin 2 for voltage.

Is voltage B+?

YES GO to FA3.
NP GO to FA2.

FA2 - Check Supply At Fuse (15A)

- Using a voltmeter, check output side of fuse 1 (15A) Town Car or fuse 5 (15A) Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis for voltage.

Is voltage B+?

YES SERVICE circuit 298 (P/O) for open circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO GO to FA3.

FA3 - Check Supply To Fuse (15A)

- Using a voltmeter, check input side of fuse 1 (15A) Town Car or fuse 5 (15A) Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis.

Is voltage B+?

YES REPLACE damaged Fuse 1 (15A) for Town Car or Fuse 5 (15A) for Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO SERVICE Circuit 298 (P/O) to fuse for open. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
