AB - Courtesy Lamps Inoperative

Pinpoint Test AB: Courtesy Lamps Inoperative

NOTE: Ford DOES NOT provide a procedure to perform the following pinpoint test without the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) tester 007-00500 or equivalent.

AB1 - Preliminary Checks

- Check fuse 4 (10A) for Town Car, fuse 8 (15A) for Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis for continuity.
- Check connections for clean tight fit.
- Check for loose or damaged wires.

Do wiring and components check OK?

YES GO to AB2.
NO CHECK or REPLACE as required.

AB2 - Check Courtesy Lamp Condition

- Connect NGS tester to data link connector.
- Access active command modes.
- Command PID INTR_LT ON.

Did courtesy lamps turn on?

YES Command PID INTR_LT OFF. GO to AB3.
NO GO to AB16.

AB3 - Check Dome Lamp

- Turn dome lamp switch ON.

Do courtesy lamps come on?

YES Turn dome lamp switch off
NO GO to AB6.

AB4 - Check Driver Door Ajar

- Open the driver door.

Do the courtesy lamps turn on?

YES CLOSE drivers door. GO to AB5.
NO CLOSE drivers door. GO to AB11 for Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis. GO to AB12 for Town Car.

AB5 - Check Passenger Door Ajar

- Open the passenger door.
- Repeat test for each door.

Do courtesy lamps turn on?

YES System is operating normally. REFER to Symptom Chart. Courtesy Lamps
NO CLOSE passenger door. GO to AB14.

AB6 - Check Dome Lamp Switch Circuit

- Read PID DOMESW.

Does PID indicate dome switch ACTIVE?

YES GO to AB7.
NO GO to AB8.

AB7 - Check Dome Lamp Switch For Stuck Switch

- Disconnect headlamp switch.
- Read PID DOMESW.

Does PID indicate dome switch active?

YES REPLACE headlamp switch. RETEST system.
NO SERVICE circuit 1034 (BK/W) for short to B+. RETEST system.

AB9 - Check Lighting Control Module

- Turn OFF dome switch.
- Read PID DOMESW.

Does PID indicate dome switch ACTIVE?

YES REPLACE lighting control module. RETEST system.
NO GO to AB9.

AB9 - Check Circuit 88 (BK/W)

- Disconnect battery negative cable.
- Disconnect headlamp switch and lighting control module C1 connectors.
- Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between LCM pin C1-2 and headlamp C2-6.

Is resistance 5 ohms or less?

YES GO to Ab10.
NO SERVICE open in circuit 88 (BK/W). RETEST system.

AB10 - Check Circuit 221 (O/W)

- Reconnect battery ground cable.
- Using a voltmeter, measure pin C2-7 circuit 221 (O/W) for voltage.

Is voltage reading B+?

YES REPLACE headlamp switch.
NO SERVICE open in circuit 221 (O/W) between fuse and dome lamp switch. RETEST system.

AB11 - Test For Dark Car Enabled

- Read the PID CHIMERQ.

Is the tone request enabled?

YES Note: This circuit has a dual purpose. On police vehicles, it is tied to ground to enable "Dark Car" mode. If the vehicle is a police vehicle, check with the personnel responsible for vehicle before proceeding. If the vehicle is not a police vehicle or the intent is to re-enable the courtesy lights, SERVICE circuit 183 (T/Y) to lighting control module for short to ground. After short is corrected, REMOVE and REAPPLY power to module. RETEST system.
NO GO to AB12.

AB12 - Check Driver Door Ajar Circuit

- Open the driver door.
- With the NGS tester, read PID LFDRLCM.

Does PID indicate drivers door open?

YES REPLACE lighting control module.
NO GO to AB13.

AB13 - Check Driver Door Ajar Circuit

- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Using an ohmmeter, check circuit 867 (DB) between Pin C2-11 of lighting control module and LH front door interior lamp switch connector.

Is Circuit OK?

YES REPLACE LH front interior lamp switch. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO SERVICE open in circuit 867 (DB). RETEST system.

AB14 - Check Passenger Door Ajar Circuits

- Open all the passenger doors one at a time.
- With the NGS tester, read PID P_DR_LC after each door is opened.

Does PID indicate passenger doors open?

YES REPLACE lighting control module.
NO GO to AB15.

AB15 - Check Passenger Door Ajar Circuits

- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity in circuit 627 (BK/O) between lighting control module connector pin C1-11 and passenger door interior lamp switch connectors.

Is there continuity?

YES REPLACE inoperative interior lamp switch. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO SERVICE open in circuit 627 (BK/O) between lighting control module and interior.

AB16 - Check Courtesy Lamps Power

- Disconnect connector C3 from lighting control module.
- Test for voltage at pin C3-11 circuit 54 (LG/Y).

Is voltage reading B+?

YES GO to AB17.
NO SERVICE open in circuit 54 (LG/Y). RETEST system.

AB17 - Check Circuit 53 (BK/LB) For Short

- Disconnect lighting control module connectors.
- Using jumper wire, short pin C3-11 circuit 56 (LG/Y) to pin C3-5 circuit 53 (BK/LB).

Does fuse 4 (10A) for Town car or fuse 8 (15A) for Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis open?

YES SERVICE short to ground in circuit 53 (BK/LB). RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO GO to AB18.

AB18 Check Courtesy Lamps Output

- Using a jumper wire, short pins C3-11 to C3-5 of lighting control module.

Does courtesy lamps turn on?

YES REPLACE lighting control module, RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO CHECK Circuit 53 (BK/LB) for open. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
