AK - All Demand Lighting Inoperative

Pinpoint Test AK: All Demand Lighting Inoperative

NOTE: Ford DOES NOT provide a procedure to perform the following pinpoint test without the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) tester 007-00500 or equivalent.

AK1 - Check Demand Lighting

- Open hood and observe engine compartment lamp.
- Open luggage compartment door and observe luggage compartment lamp.
- Open glove compartment and observe glove compartment lamp.
- Test each of the map and reading lamps.
- Test each of the vanity lamps.

Do all lamps work?

YES GO to AK9.
NO GO to AK2.

AK2 - Check All Demand Lighting, At Least One Lamp Inoperative

- Repeat Step AK1.

Are all lamps inoperative?

YES CHECK fuse 4 (10A) Town Car or fuse 8 (15A) Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis. If fuse is OK, GO to AK3. If not, REPLACE fuse. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO CHECK bulb, switch and wiring for each of the lamps which do not work. RETEST system. Go to AK8.

AK3 - Test Courtesy Lamps

- Open driver door.
- Observe courtesy lamps and demand lighting as in AK1.

Do the courtesy and demand lamps turn on?

YES GO to AK8 (Town Car) or AK12 (Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis).
NO GO to AK4.

AK4 - Test Courtesy Lamps Demand Lamps Inoperative

- Repeat AK3.

Do the courtesy lamps turn on, demand lighting does not?

YES GO to AK6.
NO GO to AK5.

AK5 - Test Courtesy Lamps, Neither Courtesy Lamps Or Demand Lamps Turn On

- Repeat AK4.

Do neither lamps turn on?

YES GO to Pinpoint Test AB. AB - Courtesy Lamps Inoperative
NO GO to AK6.

AK6 - Check Circuit 705 (LG/Y) For Short To Ground

- Disconnect LCM connectors.
- Using a jumper, connect pin C3-11 circuit 54 (LG/Y) to pin C3-1 circuit 705 (LG/O).

Does fuse 4 (10A) for Town Car or fuse 8 (15A) for Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis open?

YES SERVICE circuit 705 (LG/O) short to ground. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO GO to AK7.

AK7 - Test Demand Lamps Output

- Disconnect connector C3 from lighting control module.
- Using a jumper wire, short pin C3-11 to C3-1.

Do demand lamps turn on?

YES REPLACE lighting control module. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO SERVICE circuit 705 (LG/O) for open circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

AK8 - Test Demand Lamps Reset

- Close all doors and luggage compartment door.
- Make sure that ignition switch is OFF and key is out of ignition switch.
- Disconnect hood anti-theft control switch.

NOTE: Town Car only - This is the anti-theft switch and does not turn off the engine compartment lamp.

- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Reconnect battery ground cable.

Do demand lamps turn on?

YES GO to AK12.
NO GO to AK9.

AK9 - Check Hood Switch

- Connect hood anti-theft control switch.

Do demand lights turn on?

YES GO to AK10.
NO SERVICE circuit 23 (T/LG), hood switch and hood switch ground circuit 57 (BK) for open circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

AK10 - Check Luggage Compartment Door Switch

- Disconnect hood anti-theft control switch.
- Disconnect and reconnect battery cable.
- Open luggage compartment door.

Do demand lights turn on?

YES GO to Pinpoint Test AB. AB - Courtesy Lamps Inoperative
NO GO to AK11.

AK11 - Test Luggage Compartment Door Switch

- Disconnect and reconnect battery ground cable.
- Open luggage compartment door.

Do demand lamps turn on?

YES GO to Pinpoint Test AB. AB - Courtesy Lamps Inoperative
NO SERVICE circuit 486 (BR/W) luggage compartment lamp switch and switch ground circuit 57 (BK) for open circuit. RETEST system.

AK12 - Test Ignition Switch Position

- Connect NGS tester or equivalent to data link connector with ignition off.
- Request ignition switch PID IGN_LCM.

Does PID read ignition off?

YES GO to AK13.
NO SERVICE circuits 294 (W/LB) and 1003 (GY/Y) for short to battery. RETEST system.

AK13 - Test Luggage Compartment Door Lock Cylinder Switch

- Request PID DECKLID.

Does PID indicate luggage compartment door not ajar?

YES GO to AK14.
NO SERVICE circuit 486 (BR/W) for short to ground and switch for stuck switch. RETEST system.

AK14 - Test Door Handle Switch

- Request door handle switch PID LFDHAND.

Does PID indicate handle active?

YES GO to AK15.
NO SERVICE circuit 930 (P/LG) for short to ground or stuck switch. RETEST system.

AK15 - Test Door Ajar Switches

- Request door ajar PID LFDRLCM (driver door) and P_DR_LC (passenger door).

Does PID indicate and door ajar?

YES SERVICE circuit 867 (DB) (driver door) or circuit 627 (BK/O) (passenger door) and switched for short to ground. RETEST system.

AK16 - Test Anti-Theft Disarm Switches

- Request anti-theft disarm switches PID ALARMSW.

Does PID indicate switches active?

YES SERVICE circuit 25 (DG/P) and disarm switches in both doors for short to ground. RETEST system.

AK17 - Test Lighting Control Module

- Disconnect connector C3 from lighting control module.

Are demand lamps on?

YES SERVICE circuit 705 (LG/O) for short to B+. RETEST system.
NO REPLACE lighting control module. RETEST system.
