DTC B1692: Autolamp Delay Short To Ground

B1692-1 - Rerun Test

- Clear DTCs.
- Turn autolamps ON.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN.
- Retrieve continuous DTCs.

Is DTC B1692 still present?

YES GO to B1692-3.
NO GO to B1692-2.

B1692-2 - Check For Intermittent Concern

- Cycle autlamp switch to maximum and off several times.
- Retrieve continuous DTCs.

Is DTC B1692 retrieved?

YES REPLACE headlamp switch. RETEST system.
NO CHECK circuit 217 (DB/O) for intermittent open circuit. RETEST system.

B1692-3 - Check Headlamp Switch

- Remove headlamp switch.
- Set autolamp switch on minimum delay time (with autolamp on).
- Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between terminals C2-9 and C2-1 on headlamp switch.

Is the resistance 5 ohms or less?

YES GO to B1692-4.
NO REPLACE headlamp switch. RETEST system.

B1692-4 - Check For Shorted Switch

- Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between terminals C2-9 and C2-7 on headlamp switch.

Is resistance greater than 5 ohms?

YES REPLACE headlamp switch. RETEST system.
NO SERVICE circuit 217 (DB/O) for short to ground.
