Pinpoint Test AE: Flash To Pass Inoperative

AE1 - Check Supply To Multi-Function Switch

- Turn ignition switch to RUN position.
- Using a voltmeter connected to a known good ground, Check circuit 221 (O/W) pin C2-7 of multi-function switch connector for voltage.

Is voltage B+?

YES GO to AE3.
NO GO to AE2.

AE2 - Check Circuit 221 (O/W) For Short

- Remove circuit breaker 12 (20A) from fuse junction panel.
- Using an ohmmeter connected to a known good ground, check output side of circuit breaker cavity for resistance.

Is resistance less than 10K ohms?

YES SERVICE circuit 221 (O/W) for short to ground. REPLACE damaged circuit breaker. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO REPLACE damaged circuit breaker. GO to AE3.

AE3 - Check Circuit 221 (O/W) For Open

- Using a voltmeter connected to a known good ground, check pin C2-7 circuit 221 (O/W) at multi-function switch connector for power.

Is voltage B+?

YES GO to AE4.
NO SERVICE circuit 221 (O/W) for open. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

AE4 - Check Multi-Function Switch Operation

- Using a voltmeter connected to a known good ground, connect second lead to pin C2-5 circuit 12 (LG/BK) Town Car or circuit 932 (GY/W) Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis at multi-function switch connector.
- Actuate the multi-function switch to the flash-to-pass position.

Is voltage B+?

YES If B+ is present but circuit breaker opened, GO to AE5. If circuit breaker did not open, GO to AE6.
NO REPLACE damaged multi-function switch. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

AE5 - Check Circuit 12 (LG/BK) For Short To Ground

- Using an ohmmeter connected to a known good ground, connect second lead to circuit 12 (LG/BK) Town Car or circuit 932 (GY/W) Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis pin C2-5 at multi-function switch connector.
- Measure resistance.

Is resistance 5 ohms or less?

YES SERVICE circuit 12 (LG/BK) Town Car or circuit 932 (GY/W) Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis for short to ground. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO GO to AE6.

AE6 - Check Headlamps

- Disconnect both headlamp bulbs.
- Reconnect one headlamp.
- Actuate multi-function switch to the flash-to-pass position.

Did circuit breaker open?

YES REPLACE the disconnected headlamp bulb. RESTORE the vehicle. RETEST the system.
NO REPLACE damaged headlamp bulb. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
