Pinpoint Test AF: Delayed Exit Inoperative

AF1 - Test Delayed Exit Minimum Time Out

- Set autolamp delayed exit switch to minimum level.
- Cover autolamp sensor to simulate darkness.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN, then OFF.

Does it take less than 20 seconds for autolamps to turnoff?

YES GO to AF4.
NO GO to AF2.

AF2 - Check Delayed Exit Minimum Setting

- Set autolamp delayed exit switch to minimum level.
- Cover autolamp sensor to simulate darkness.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN, then OFF.

Doe sit take 3 minutes for autolamps to turn off?

YES GO to AF4.
NO GO to AF3.

AF3 - Check Autolamp Sensor

- Set autolamp delayed exit switch to minimum level.
- Cover autolamp sensor to simulate darkness.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN, then OFF.

Does it take more than 3 minutes for autolamps to turnoff

YES Go to Pinpoint Test AC. AC - Headlamps On Continuously
NO GO to AF5.

AF4 - Test Delayed Exit Maximum Time Out

- Set autolamp delayed exit switch to maximum level with autolamps still on.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN, then OFF.

Does it take less than 2 minutes and 45 seconds for autolamps to turn off?

YES GO to AF7.
NO GO to AF5.

AF5 - Check Delayed Exit Maximum Setting

- Set autolamp delayed exit switch to maximum level with autolamps on.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN, then OFF.

Does it take 3 minutes for autolamps to turn off?

YES System is operating properly.
NO GO to AF6.

AF6 - Check Autolamps Ignition Input

- Set autolamp delayed exit switch to maximum level with autolamps still on.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN, then OFF.

Does it take longer than 3 minutes for autolamps to turn off?

YES GO to Pinpoint Test AC. AC - Headlamps On Continuously
NO GO to AF8.

AF8 - Test Autolamp Delay Potentiometer

- Disconnect lighting control module connector C2.
- Read voltage at lighting control module pin C2-8 circuit 217 (DB/O).
- Change position of autolamp delay several times.

Does voltage read less than 1 volt?

YES RECHECK fuse 15 (15A) Town Car or fuse 4 (15A) Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis. SERVICE circuit 217 (DB/O) for open between autolamp delay and lighting control module or damaged switch. RETEST system.
NO GO to AF9.

AF9 - Check Autolamps Switch Input

- Remove lighting control module connector C2.
- Read voltage at lighting control module pin C2-8 circuit 217 (DB/O).
- Change position of autolamp delay several times.

Does voltage change with position of switch?

YES REPLACE lighting control module. RETEST system.
NO GO to AF10.

AF10 - Check Autolamps For Short To B+

- Remove lighting control module connector C2.
- Read voltage at pin C2-8 circuit 217 (DB/O).
- Change position of autolamp delay switch several times.

Does voltage read B+?

YES SERVICE circuit 1033 (R/Y) for short to B+ between headlamp switch delay and lighting control module or bad switch. RETEST system.
NO REPLACE lighting control module. RETEST system.
