System Operation

SYSTEM ARMING

NOTE: Opening the doors, opening the hood or removing the luggage compartment lock mechanism will activate the alarm.

- The anti-theft indicator lamp begins to flash at a 1.3 Hz rate after the ignition switch is placed in the OFF position and any door is opened or was open.
- The lamp will illuminate consistently if any door is open and the doors are locked using the front door lock switch, keyless entry keypad or keyless entry remote transmitter.
- Thirty seconds after the last door is closed and the driver seat is not occupied, arming sequence will be complete, the indicator lamp will be extinguished and the system will be armed looking for a violation of vehicle entry. If a violation occurs during this 30-second period, the anti-theft system will not be triggered. If a door is opened during the 30-second timeout period, the timer is reset and begins a new 30-second timeout when the door is closed. This gives occupants time to exit the vehicle without triggering the alarm.

The anti-theft system uses the following switches for violation detection:
- Driver and passenger door open warning lamp switches indicate door ajar status.
- Luggage compartment door lock cylinder anti-theft switch detects when the luggage compartment lock cylinder has been removed.
- Hood anti-theft control bracket and switch detects when the hood is open.

Arming of the system can be cancelled before all doors are closed by unlocking a door using front door lock switch, using a keyless entry keypad code or keyless entry remote transmitter or by unlocking either front door with a key.
- When the driver door module detects a door unlock command, it sends a message to the lighting control module. The anti-theft indicator lamp will start flashing again (if door is open).
- Turning the ignition switch to RUN or ACC will also cancel arming. (If the arming sequence was canceled before all doors are closed, then the indicator lamp will flash when any door is open and will be extinguished when all doors are closed. The system will be disarmed).
- When a key has been rotated in the door lock cylinder to properly unlock the door, driver and passenger door lock cylinder switches disarm the system.

The system will be armed by pressing the LOOK button on the keyless entry remote transmitter or by locking the doors using the keyless entry keypad if:
- All doors are closed.
- The driver seat is not occupied.
- The ignition switch is OFF.
- The system is disarmed.

The driver door module will detect the door lock command and send a message to the lighting control module. The anti-theft indicator lamp will be lit for 30 seconds and then be extinguished.
- If any door remains ajar, the perimeter protection will not arm and the anti-theft indicator will extinguish after five minutes.

If, during the 30-second arming period, the lighting control module detects the door lock cylinder switch is removed, then the system will be armed. However, the luggage compartment door lock cylinder sensor will be ignored.
- If during the arming period, the lighting control module detects the hood is open, the arming sequence will not be affected.
- Detection of an open hood will not trigger the alarm unless the hood has been closed for five seconds while the system is armed.

Vehicle protection operates independent of the perimeter protection and functions by monitoring the status of the ignition cylinder using the ignition lock anti-theft switch.
- The ignition lock anti-theft switch clips on the passive restraint steering column beneath the ignition switch lock cylinder. The sensor consists of a 162 Ohm resistor with two wires that are inputs to the lighting control module.
- When the ignition switch is OFF, the system monitors the ignition lock anti-theft switch for an increase or decrease in resistance to detect tampering with the ignition key cylinder. If the lighting control module detects deviation in resistance, then the alarm is triggered. The system ignores the ignition lock anti-theft switch when the ignition switch is in RUN or ACC.

DISARMING AN UNTRIGGERED SYSTEM
- Unlock driver or passenger door with the key.
- Unlock driver door using the keyless entry keypad code.
- Unlock driver door by pressing UNLOCK button of keyless entry remote transmitter. If remaining in the vehicle, turn ignition switch to RUN or ACC.

SYSTEM TRIGGERING
The alarm system will be activated if any of the following actions occur after the system has been armed:
- Opening any door without first unlocking with door key or keyless entry keypad unlock code.
- Removing luggage compartment door lock cylinder.
- Opening hood.
- Tampering with ignition switch lock cylinder.

DISARMING A TRIGGERED SYSTEM

NOTE: Any of these procedures will disarm a triggered system.

- Unlock driver or passenger doors with the key.
- Unlock driver door using the keyless entry keypad code.
- Unlock doors by pressing UNLOCK button of keyless entry remote transmitter.

Within three minutes after the system has been triggered, the horns and exterior lamps will shut off automatically. The system will then reset to an armed state and will trigger again if another intrusion occurs. However, the vehicle's starter circuit will remain disabled until the system is disarmed.

PANIC ALARM ACTIVATION
The personal security alarm is operated from the keyless entry remote transmitter as follows:
- Pressing the button marked PANIC on the keyless entry remote transmitter will cause the horns to sound.
- Also, the low beam headlamps, parking lamps, rear lamps and courtesy lamps will flash.
- The personal security alarm is activated when the anti-theft alarm system is armed or disarmed.
- This system is disabled ONLY when the ignition switch is in RUN or ACC position.
- Disarming the personal security alarm is done.
