Removal and Installation

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove full-length console panel (5 passenger) or mini console panel (6 passenger).







3. Remove defroster grille by pulling upward to unsnap six clips and disconnect wiring.
4. Open glove compartment door and unsnap glove compartment damper nylon string.







5. Press sides of glove compartment bin inward and lower glove compartment toward floor.
6. Through glove compartment opening, remove automatic temperature sensor hose from blower assembly. Disconnect electronic automatic temperature control vacuum lines.
7. Remove five push pins from RH instrument panel insulator and LH instrument panel insulator. Remove RH instrument panel insulator and LH instrument panel insulator. Refer to illustration in Step 5.
8. For traction control equipped vehicles, disconnect traction control switch connector.
9. Remove three screws retaining lower instrument panel steering column cover and remove instrument panel steering column cover.
10. Remove five screws retaining instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement. Remove reinforcement.
11. Remove steering column.
12. Remove two screws retaining brake release lever.
13. Remove two screws retaining hood release lever.
14. Remove screw at steering column opening which retains instrument panel to instrument panel dash brace.
15. Disconnect LH main wiring and RH main wiring bulkhead connectors from main wiring harness.
16. Remove three screws retaining instrument panel to cowl top.







17. Remove two screws retaining steering column mounting support to instrument panel cowl brace.
18. On LH cowl side, remove two bolts retaining instrument panel and loosen captive bolt.
19. On RH cowl side, remove nut and washer retaining instrument panel.
20. With an assistant, remove instrument panel from vehicle.

INSTALLATION
1. With an assistant, install instrument panel to vehicle.
2. Install three screws retaining instrument panel to cowl top. Tighten screws to 2-3 Nm (18-26 lb-in).
3. On RH cowl side, install nut and washer retaining instrument panel to body. Tighten to 10-14 Nm (89-123 lb-ft).

NOTE: Do not overtighten nut. Damage to instrument panel may result.

4. On LH cowl side, install two bolts retaining instrument panel to body. Tighten two retaining bolts and one captive bolt (to the right) to 17-23 Nm (13-16 lb-ft).
5. Install two screws retaining steering column mounting support to instrument panel cowl brace. Tighten screws to 17-23 Nm (13-16 lb-ft).
6. Install console panel.
7. Connect LH main wiring and RH main wiring bulkhead connectors to main wiring harness. Tighten connector screws to 4-6 Nm (36-53 lb-in).
8. Install screw at steering column opening which retains instrument panel to instrument panel dash brace. Tighten screws to 6-8 Nm (54-70 lb-in).
9. Install hood and brake release levers.
10. Install steering column.
11. Install five screws retaining instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.







12. Install three screws and instrument panel steering column cover.
13. On vehicles with traction control, connect electrical connector for traction control switch.
14. Install three screws retaining instrument panel steering column cover.







15. Install RH and LH lower instrument panel insulator using pushpins.
16. Working through glove compartment opening connect automatic temperature sensor hose (to blower) and any other electrical connectors or vacuum lines connected to the A/C evaporator housing.
17. Re-install glove compartment door damper string. Press sides of glove compartment inward and close glove compartment.
18. Install defroster grille by connecting two light sensors and snapping into place.
19. Install or connect any other components removed or disconnected to remove instrument panel.
20. Connect battery ground cable.
21. Check all instrument panel gauges and controls for proper operation.
22. Check air bag indicator operation.
