Automatic Dimming
The automatic dimming inside rear view mirror is shown in the illustration. Courtesy lamps on standard inside rear view mirror are similar.
The inside rear view mirror on roof sliding panel-equipped vehicles contains two lamps which function as courtesy lamps when the doors are open. These lamps also function as map lamps when the doors are closed and the rocker switches are activated.
- The automatic dimming day/night mirror changes from the normal state to the non-glare state when glare reaches the inside rear view mirror.
- The inside mirror and driver side mirror function at night, with limited function at dusk or dawn. From the non-glare state, the inside mirror and the driver side mirror will return to the normal state after a short delay.
- The automatic dimming inside mirror measures the brightness of the light in front of the vehicle to establish ambient light conditions. It automatically makes a correction for glare coming from the rear based on the glare state selected on the switch for both inside and outside mirrors.
- The automatic dimming function may be turned Off by sliding the switch to the OFF position. It may be turned Off in either the normal or non-glare state.
- The automatic dimming inside mirror uses light in front of the vehicle and light from headlamps reflected in the mirror to determine the optimum reflectivity of the mirror.
- One important safety feature is that both the inside and outside automatically dimming mirrors will automatically lock in the normal state whenever the transaxle is placed in REVERSE. This feature allows a bright, clear view in the mirror when backing up.
- On vehicles equipped with compass, the compass module is attached to inside rear view mirror.
