Wheels and Tires: Description and Operation

WARNING: DO NOT MIX DIFFERENT TYPES OF TIRES ON THE SAME VEHICLE EXCEPT IN EMERGENCIES (TEMPORARY SPARE USAGE), BECAUSE VEHICLE HANDLING MAY BE SERIOUSLY AFFECTED AND MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL.

DESCRIPTION
Factory installed tires and wheels are designed to operate satisfactorily with loads up to and including full-rated load capacity when inflated to recommended inflation pressures.
^ Correct tire pressures and driving techniques have an important influence on tire life.
^ Heavy cornering, excessively rapid acceleration and unnecessary sharp braking increase tire wear.

SELF-SUPPORTING TIRE-SECURITIRE TIRE

WARNING: IF VEHICLE IS DRIVEN WITH A LOW TIRE, THE TIRE MAY BE VERY HOT. ALLOW THE TIRE AND WHEEL TO COOL BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO CHANGE TIRE.

CAUTION: Securitire tires must be mounted on SH-M wheels. Securitire tires mounted on non-SH-M wheels will not perform properly at low or zero pressure.

This vehicle is equipped with securitire tires and SH-M wheels. No other wheel may be used with securitire tires. Tires are designed with capability to be driven a limited distance of approximately 32 km (20 miles) at low or zero pressure.

LOW TIRE PRESSURE SENSING SYSTEM
Description
The pressure alert system:
^ Monitors tire pressure in all four tires but not the spare.
^ Provides two levels of warning:
First Level: If tire pressure drops below 124 kPa (18 psi) or if low tire pressure sensing system is inoperative, the low tire pressure indicator in the overhead console will illuminate.
Second Level: If tire pressure drops below 69 kPa (10 psi), the low tire pressure warning indicator will flash and the warning low tire pressure is displayed in message center.
^ The system resets above 165.5 kPa (24 psi).

Components
The low tire pressure sensing system consists of:
^ Low tire pressure transmitter (one per wheel-color coded).
LH front-Green.
RH front-Blue.
LH rear-Yellow.
RH rear-Orange.
^ Low tire pressure module and warning indicator are located in the overhead console.
