Ignition Switch: Adjustments
The ignition switch is operated by the lock actuator rack and pinion driven by the key cylinder. Rotating the key clockwise from the full counterclockwise stop, the positions are ACCESSORY, LOCK, OFF, RUN and START. If the ignition system is properly assembled, the following conditions should be exhibited:^ In ACCESSORY, the accessory circuit is operative and the steering wheel is locked. Gearshift lever cannot be moved.
^ In LOCK, all ignition switch electrical circuits are inoperative and the steering wheel is locked. Gearshift lever cannot be moved.
^ In OFF, all ignition switch electrical circuits are inoperative and the steering wheel is unlocked. Gearshift lever can be moved.
^ In RUN, all ignition switch circuits (or accessory circuits) are operative except the starter circuit and warning lamp proof circuit and the steering wheel is unlocked. Gearshift lever can be moved.
^ In START, the engine ignition, warning lamp proof circuit and starter circuits only are operative and the steering wheel is unlocked. Gearshift lever can be moved. If the switch does not operate as described, check for proper indexing of the teeth on the steering column lock gear to the teeth of the upper steering column lock lever actuator.
