Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

OPERATIONAL TEST
1. Turn ignition switch to RUN.
2. Verify that the transaxle range selector lever is in PARK.
3. Without the brake pedal applied, verify that the transaxle range selector lever cannot be shifted from PARK.
4. Apply the brake pedal. Verify that the transaxle range selector lever can be shifted from PARK.
5. Shift to REVERSE.
6. Verify that the ignition switch cannot be turned to the LOCK position.
7. Shift to PARK.
8. Verify that the ignition switch can be turned to the LOCK position. If the shift lock system is not operating a specified, begin preliminary diagnosis.

PRELIMINARY DIAGNOSIS
1. Inspect the following components of ignition/shifter interlock system. Determine if any of the following electrical or mechanical concerns apply:
Mechanical
^ Kinked or bound ignition/shifter interlock cable.
^ Kinked or bound shift cable.
^ Damaged selector linkage.
^ Transaxle range selector lever out of adjustment.
Electrical
^ Blown fuse junction panel Fuse 28 (10A), Fuse 32 (15A)
^ Poor connections.
^ Damaged wiring harness.
2. Proceed to Diagnosis by Symptom. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
