Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories: Service Precautions

WARNING:
Do not allow drive belt tensioner (6B209) to snap back as damage to drive belt tensioner or personal injury could result
.

CAUTION:
Accessory Drive Belt Tension
Drive belts (8620) must be properly adjusted at all times.
^ Loose drive belts will result in slippage which may cause a noise condition or improper accessory operation (e.g., the generator will not charge).
^ Over-tightened drive belts will place an unnecessary load on the accessory bearings.

NOTE:
^ Minor cracks in the V-grooved portion of the serpentine drive belt (8620) are considered normal and acceptable. If the drive belt has chunks missing from the ribs, the drive belt should be replaced.
^ When an accessory drive belt is replaced or reinstalled after a service procedure, the drive belt does not fully seat into pulley grooves until engine has run for several minutes.
