Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

1. Verify the customer's concern by following these steps:
1 Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2 Turn the headlamp switch to the HEAD position.
3 Check the low beam headlamp operation.
4 Turn the high beam headlamp ON with the dimmer switch.
5 Check the high beam operation.
6 Check the high beam indicator located in the hybrid electronic instrument cluster for proper operation.
7 Turn the high beam headlamps OFF.
8 Turn the low beam headlamps OFF.
9 Check the daytime running lamps system operation:

NOTE: Service headlamp concerns before checking the daytime running lamps.

- Turn the ignition switch to RUN.
- Check for the high beam headlamps ON at reduced intensity.
- Block the wheels, shift the transmission to NEUTRAL.

NOTE: Do not apply the parking brake.

2. Inspect to determine if one of the following electrical concerns apply:

VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

Electrical
- Damaged bulbs.
- Open fuses.
+ Power distribution box Fuse 2 (15A)
+ Fuse junction panel Fuse 34 (15A)
- Circuitry open/shorted.
- Damaged daytime running lamps control.

3. If the inspection reveals obvious concern(s) that can be readily identified, service as required.
4. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the New Generation Star (NGS) Tester to the Data Link Connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel to perform the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If the New Generation Star Tester responds with NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for the Steering Column/Ignition/Lighting Control Module, go to Pinpoint Test A. A No Comm With The Steering Column/Ignition/Lighting Module

If the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST is passed for the Steering Column/Ignition/Lighting Control Module, retrieve the continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and execute Self Test Diagnostics for the Steering Column/Ignition/Lighting Control Module.
5. If the self test is passed and no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are retrieved, go to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures

7. If the Steering Column/Ignition/Lighting Control Module cannot be accessed by the New Generation Star Tester, go to Pinpoint Test A. A No Comm With The Steering Column/Ignition/Lighting Module
