Fuel Injector: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the strategy.

2. Remove fuel tank filler cap and release fuel tank pressure.
3. Perform fuel pressure release procedure.
4. Remove the fuel injection supply manifold.





5. Grasping fuel injector body, pull up while gently rocking the fuel injectors from side to side.





6. Inspect the fuel injector O-rings for deterioration.





7. Inspect the fuel injector cap, the body and the washer for dirt or signs of deterioration.
8. Replace the O-rings as required. Lubricate new O-rings with clean engine oil XO-10W30-QSP or -DSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M2C153-E.

CAUTION: Never use silicone grease. Silicone grease will clog the fuel injectors.

INSTALLATION
1. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.
