Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected or reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.

2. Raise and support the vehicle.

CAUTION: The air suspension switch must be turned to the OFF position when the vehicle is hoisted, jacked, towed, jump started, or raised off the ground, to avoid any unnecessary operation of the system and/or possible damage to its components.





3. Remove the two rear Heated Oxygen Sensors (HO2S).
1 Disconnect the connectors.
2 Use the Oxygen Sensor Wrench to remove the heated oxygen sensor.





4. Remove the two connectors from the front heated oxygen sensor.





5. Use the Oxygen Sensor Wrench to remove the front heated oxygen sensor.

INSTALLATION
Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.

NOTE: Apply a light coat of High Temperature Nickel Anti-Seize Lubricant F6AZ-9L494-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M12A4-A to the threads.
