Steering Column: Description and Operation

The steering column:
^ is of modular construction.
^ features easy to service electrical switches.
^ These vehicles are not equipped with a fixed steering column.
^ Tilt steering columns are equipped with an electric tilt and telescopic mechanism that allows the steering wheel angle length to be adjusted to suit the driver. The steering wheel position is stored in memory in the same way as the drivers seat position and retrieved as a personality feature. The steering column is controlled by the steering column ignition lighting control module.
^ Steering columns have steering wheels which are bolted to the top of the steering column and are fitted with a supplemental air bag system driver side air bag module. Before performing work on or around any supplemental air bag system component, observe all supplemental air bag system conditions and warnings to avoid unnecessary air bag deployment and possible injury.
