Flatness

DESCRIPTION
When a cylinder head is removed because of gasket leaks, check the flatness of the head gasket surface to make sure it conforms to specification using Straight Edge D83L-4201-A or equivalent and feeler gauge.

PROCEDURES
1. Check the cylinder head for flatness on the head gasket surface.
2. The cylinder head must be within 0.150 mm, 150 mm x 150 mm: 0.050 mm, 40 mm x40 mm: 0.030 mm over the entire cylinder head gasket surface.
3. Replace the cylinder head if it is cracked or out of specification. Do not plane or grind the head gasket surface.
4. Remove all burrs or scratches with an oil stone.
5. Check Valve seat runout.
