Visual/Camshaft Bore Inspection

1. Inspect the cylinder heads for cracks or excessively burned areas in the exhaust outlet ports.
2. Replace the cylinder head if it is cracked.
3. Check the cylinder head gasket surface for burrs and nicks. Small imperfections can be dressed down using an oil stone.
4. Inspect the cylinder heads for damaged spark plug threads. Repair as required.

NOTE: If camshaft journals are excessively worn or scored, replace the camshaft. The cylinder head bearing journals can be refinished to accommodate 0.5 mm (0.020 inch) oversize camshaft. If the cylinder head journals cannot be bored out 0.5 mm (0.020 inch), replace the cylinder head (6049).

5. Inspect the camshaft journals on the cylinder head and camshaft carriers caps. If excessive wear or galling is present, replace cylinder head.
6. Check camshaft bores for size, taper, roundness, alignment and finish. If any of these exceed the limits given in Specifications, rebore cylinder head to accept oversize camshaft or replace cylinder head.
7. Inspect spark plug hole threads. Damaged spark plug threads in the cylinder head can be serviced using Rotunda Sav-A-Thread Spark Plug Kit 107-R0901 or equivalent.
