Wheel Hub: Service and Repair
Special Tools
REMOVAL
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
3. Remove front hub cap grease seal (1N135) from wheel hub (1104) and discard.
4. Remove the front disc brake caliper bolts that mount disc brake caliper (2B120) assembly to spindle and discard.
CAUTION: Do not let disc brake caliper hang by the front brake hose (2078). Damage to the front brake may result.
5. Remove the front disc brake caliper assembly and suspend with wire.
6. Remove front disc brake rotor (1125). If factory push-on nuts are installed, remove clips first.
CAUTION: The front axle wheel hub retainer must never be reused. If the retainer is reused, it can back off resulting in loss of the front wheel and or damage to the wheel hub and bearing assembly.
7. Remove the front axle wheel hub retainer (3B477). Discard the retainer.
6. Remove the wheel hub assembly. If assembly cannot be removed by hand, use Front Hub Remover/Replacer T81P-1104-C
CAUTION: When removing the wheel hub and bearing, use caution not to damage the ABS sensor lead or the ABS sensor ring.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the wheel hub.
2. Install the front wheel hub retainer and bearing assembly and tighten to 255-345 N.m (189-254 lb.ft.).
CAUTION: When installing the wheel hub, use extreme caution not to damage the ABS sensor lead or the ABS sensor ring.
2. Install the front brake rotor and push on nuts.
3. Install a new front hub cap grease seal. Use appropriate tool so as not to damage or distort front disc brake rotor.
4. Position the front disc brake caliper to front disc rotor and front spindle. (3105).
5. Install new disc brake caliper mounting bolts. Tighten to 200 N.m (147 lb. ft.)
6. Install the wheel and tire assembly. tighten lug nuts (1012) to 115-142 N.m (85-104 lb. ft.).
7. Lower the vehicle.
