Fuel Injector: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the strategy.
2. Remove fuel tank filler cap and release fuel tank pressure.
3. Perform fuel pressure release procedure.
4. Remove fuel injection supply manifold.
Fuel Injector:
5. Carefully remove connectors from fuel charging wiring to individual fuel injectors as required.
6. Grasping fuel injector body, pull up while gently rocking fuel injector from side to side.
7. Inspect fuel injector O-rings (two per fuel injector) for signs of deterioration. Replace as required.
8. Inspect fuel injector end cap and body for signs of dirt and deterioration.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION: The fuel injector nozzle tips for this vehicle have a deposit-resistant design and should NOT be cleaned.
1. Lubricate new O-rings with clean engine oil XO-10W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C 153-F.
CAUTION: Never use silicone grease. It will clog the fuel injectors.
2. Install fuel injectors using a light, twisting-pushing motion.
3. Install fuel injection supply manifold as described.
4. Install connectors from fuel charging wiring to fuel injectors.
5. Perform Post-Service Procedures. Service and Repair
