1. Install steering gear input worm gear and rack into steering actuator housing.





2. Install lower steering column instrument panel clamp and steering column lower bearing retainer. Tighten screws to 7-11 Nm (62-97 inch lbs.).





3. Install suspension height sensor control ring, bushing, steering column upper bearing spring and steering column lower yoke to steering gear input worm gear and rack. Tighten pinch bolt to 25-35 Nm (19-25 ft. lbs.).





4. Position steering column lock lever actuator, in steering actuator housing. Spray upper steering column lock lever actuator and lower steering column lock lever actuator with Multi-Purpose Grease Spray F5AZ-19G209-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M1C159-A.





5. Position steering column lock cam in steering column lock cylinder housing and install steering column lock actuator lever pin with small hammer. Tap pin in until flush with steering column lock cylinder housing.
6. Install one steering column locking lever spring and steering column locking lever (RH) into steering actuator housing using a drift to hold in Place.





7. Install the other steering column locking lever spring and steering column lock left hand lever with steering column lock actuator lever pin. Tap steering column lock actuator lever pin into place while driving out drift.





8. Support steering actuator housing in a vise and drive steering column lock actuator lever pin flush with steering actuator housing.





9. Place two nuts or spacers to hold steering column lock left hand lever and steering column locking lever (RH) away from steering actuator housing.





10. Position steering column position spring on lock cylinder housing. With assistant, install lock cylinder housing and pivot bolts. Tighten to 18-26 Nm (14-19 ft. lbs.).

NOTE: Lube pivot bolts with Multi-Purpose Grease Spray F5AZ-19G209-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M1C159-A before installing.





11. Install steel steering column bearing tolerance ring and steering column bearing sleeve over steering column.





12. Install steering column upper bearing spring and new bearing retainer on top side of steering column upper bearing spring using a 19 mm x 60 mm (3/4 inch by 2-1/4 inch) PVC pipe.





13. Install turn indicator cancel cam, flush surface up.








14. Install ignition switch. Align pin from ignition switch with slot in lock/column assembly. Position slot in lock/column assembly. Position slot in lock/column assembly with index mark on casting. Tighten two retaining screws to 5-7 Nm (45-61 inch lbs.).





15. Install steering column lock gear. Coat steering column lock gear with Multi-Purpose Grease Spray F5AZ-19G209-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M1C159-A.





16. Install metal steering column lock housing bearing. Lubricate with Multi-Purpose Grease Spray F5AZ-19G209-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M1C159-A.





17. Install plastic bearing retainer.
18. Install shift control tube assembly. Coat bushings with Multi-Purpose Grease Spray F5AZ-19G209-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M1C159-A. Tighten screws to 7-11 Nm (62-97 inch lbs.).
19. Install shift control selector bracket.








20. Install shift lock actuator.
21. Install steering column instrument panel clamp on steering column lower bearing retainer with two bolts.
22. Install steering column in vehicle.
23. Install air bag sliding contact assembly.
24. Install steering wheel.
25. Install driver side air bag module.
26. Connect battery ground cable.
27. Verify air bag warning indicator.
