LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1997 CONTINENTAL, TOWN CAR

ISSUE:
Interior door trim panel push pin attachment method is not robust enough for frequent servicing.

ACTION:
Add screws through the door trim panel. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

TOWN CAR

Prior to door trim panel removal, feel and look for screw cavities and X-cutouts in the carpeted kick pad (Figure 1). Two (2) screws are located in each of the front door trim panels and one (1) screw is located in each of the rear door trim panels. The front screws can be found below the courtesy light and the lower forward corner of the carpeted kick pad. The rear screw can be found near the lower center area of the carpeted kick pad.

Remove the phillips head-type screws from the door trim panel carpeted kick pads before removing all other screws and push pins. Save the screws for reinstallation of the door trim panels.

CONTINENTAL

Door trim panel screws are easily identified in cutouts in the carpet at the bottom of the panel. There are two (2) per door, only on front doors (Figure 2).
