This TSB article provides information about obtaining a Securilock Valet Key for the listed vehicles.

GENERAL INFORMATION

All listed vehicles are equipped with the Securilock Anti-Theft System which utilizes special electronically coded keys to start the vehicle. With this system, customers have the option of purchasing a valet key which operates the door and ignition only. This key will not open the trunk or glove compartment of the vehicle. The valet key which is thicker than the normal key has been specially designed to operate only in the doors and ignition, thus preventing access to these other areas of the vehicle.

The valet key is available for purchase through Rotunda.

NOTE:
THE INITIAL VALET KEY FOR THE 1997 MARK VIII IS AVAILABLE FREE OF CHARGE TO THE VEHICLE OWNER. A POSTCARD THAT IS INCLUDED IN THE LINCOLN COMMITMENT PACKAGE MUST BE FILLED OUT AND RETURNED IN ORDER TO RECEIVE THE VALET KEY BLANK AND THE NECESSARY KEY PROGRAMMING INFORMATION. ANY ADDITIONAL KEYS MUST BE ORDERED THROUGH ROTUNDA USING THE PART NUMBERS LISTED BELOW. CONVENTIONAL KEY BLANKS CANNOT BE USED FOR THIS APPLICATION. UNIQUE SECURILOCK KEY BLANKS MUST BE USED.

PROGRAMMING INFORMATION

The Securilock Anti-Theft System uses encoded keys to help prevent vehicle theft by disabling the starting system when the correct key is not used to start the vehicle. In order for the vehicle to start, the engine controls must recognize an electronic code stored in the Securilock key when the key is placed in the ignition. For added security, this code is rolling and, therefore, the code that is stored in the key and the engine controls changes each time the engine is stopped and the key is removed from the ignition. Because of the electronic code within each key, it is necessary to reprogram all of the vehicle's existing keys when programming the Securilock Valet Key.

The Securilock Valet Blank can be programmed using the Securilock key programming service procedure located in each vehicle's respective Service/Workshop Manual.

All Securilock keys must be programmed simultaneously to ensure that each key will start the vehicle.
