Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Description

The parking brake system is cable-actuated and controlled by an independent foot-operated parking brake control.
The cable-actuated rear wheel parking brake operates in the following manner:
- To apply the parking brake, press the parking brake control pedal downward.
- The steering column/ignition/lighting control module controls the electrical release of the parking brake. The parking brake can be released electrically or manually.
- To release the parking brake electrically:
- start the engine.
- press the brake pedal.
- shift the transmission selector lever to Reverse or a forward gear.
- To release the parking brake manually:
- pull up on the manual parking brake release handle on the floor next to the driver seat.
- The parking brake control will release with a click, signaling that the parking brake has disengaged.
- After returning to the full OFF position, the parking brake control will reset itself to lock upon the next parking brake control pedal application.

If the parking brake control is not fully released, the parking brake signal switch will illuminate the brake warning light.
