Radiator: Description and Operation
REMOVAL1. Remove the fan motor.
2. Remove the radiator upper sight shield.
3. Drain the engine cooling system.
WARNING: NEVER REMOVE THE PRESSURE RELIEF CAP UNDER ANY CONDITIONS WHILE THE ENGINE IS OPERATING. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE COOLING SYSTEM OR ENGINE AND/OR PERSONAL INJURY. TO AVOID HAVING SCALDING HOT COOLANT OR STEAM BLOW OUT OF THE COOLING SYSTEM OR DEGAS BOTTLE, USE EXTREME CARE WHEN REMOVING THE PRESSURE RELIEF CAP FROM A HOT COOLING SYSTEM OR DEGAS BOTTLE. WAIT UNTIL THE ENGINE HAS COOLED, THEN WRAP A THICK CLOTH AROUND THE PRESSURE RELIEF CAP AND TURN IT SLOWLY UNTIL PRESSURE BEGINS TO RELEASE. STEP BACK WHILE THE PRESSURE IS RELEASED FROM THE COOLING SYSTEM. WHEN CERTAIN ALL PRESSURE HAS BEEN RELEASED, REMOVE THE PRESSURE CAP (STILL WITH A CLOTH).
4. Disconnect the upper radiator hose.
1 Compress and move the hose clamp.
2 Slide the hose off the radiator outlet.
5. Disconnect the radiator overflow hose.
1 Compress and move the hose clamp.
2 Slide the hose off the radiator outlet.
6. Disconnect the transmission fluid cooler inlet and outlet lines.
NOTE: Loosen the transmission fluid cooler lines while holding the radiator connector with another wrench.
7. Disconnect the lower radiator hose.
1 Compress and move the hose clamp.
2 Slide the hose off the radiator outlet.
8. Remove the radiator.
1 Remove the bolts.
2 Remove the radiator retaining brackets.
3 Lift and remove the radiator.
9. If installing a new radiator, remove the two oil tube connectors.
NOTE: Top oil tube connector is shown, the bottom oil tube connector is similar.
10. Remove and replace the O-ring on the radiator draincock.
INSTALLATION
1. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.
2. Note if the oil tube connectors are removed.
1 Use Pipe Sealant with Tenons D8AZ-19551A or an equivalent oil-resistant sealer meeting the Ford specifications WSK-M2G350-A2 and ESR-M18P7-A.
2 Install the two oil tube connectors.
