Removal
1. Remove the battery.2. Remove air cleaner outlet tube.
3. Drain engine cooling system.
4. Remove the windshield wiper.
5. Recover the air conditioning system.
6. Disconnect the secondary air injection valve inlet tube from the secondary air injection pump outlet hose.
7. Remove the fan motor.
8. Relieve the fuel system pressure, and disconnect the fuel tubes.
9. Disconnect the 42-pin connector at the rear of the LH valve cover.
10. Position the power distribution box out of the way.
11. Disconnect the generator wires from the power distribution box.
12. Disconnect the headlamp dash panel junction wire and the generator wire connectors.
13. Remove the accelerator and cruise control cables.
14. Disconnect the evaporative emission hose at the upper intake manifold.
15. Disconnect the chassis vacuum supply hose.
16. Disconnect the heater water hose and the heater water hose behind the RH cylinder head.
17. Remove the generator mounting bracket.
18. Remove the upper radiator hose and the water bypass hose from the water outlet tube.
19. Disconnect the radiator overflow hose.
20. Remove the power steering pressure line from the bracket.
21. Remove the power steering pressure and return hoses.
22. Disconnect the transmission cooling tubes from the radiator.
23. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the radiator.
24. Install the Engine Lifting Set on both sides of the engine.
25. Remove the A/C compressor lines.
26. Raise and support the vehicle.
27. Remove the front tires and wheels.
28. Disconnect the RH and the LH air suspension height sensor connectors.
29. Remove the stabilizer bar link from the front stabilizer bar.
30. Disconnect the RH and the LH tie rod end.
31. Disconnect the RH and the LH lower front wheel spindle.
32. Disconnect the RH and the LH front spring and shock from the front suspension lower arm strut.
33. Remove the dual converter Y pipe.
34. Remove the starter motor.
35. Remove the steering coupling at the pinch bolt joint.
36. Remove the ground strap from the RH front fender apron.
37. Remove the four bolts from the rear axle universal joint flange to the driveshaft centering socket yoke.
NOTE: To maintain initial driveshaft balance, mark the rear driveshaft yoke and axle flange so they may be installed in the original positions.
38. Remove the bolts.
1 Remove the front nuts.
2 Remove the rear nuts.
39. Position the rear driveshaft aside.
40. Remove the LH front shock absorber strut cover cup.
41. Disconnect the neutral switch wiring connectors near the LH fender wall.
42. Remove the power brake booster hose from the lower intake manifold.
43. Disconnect the vacuum hoses near the LH fender wall.
44. Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel rail.
45. Remove the shift cable and bracket.
1 Remove the nut from the shift cable and shifter.
2 Remove the clip from the shift cable bracket.
46. Position the Powertrain Lift and the Transmission Support Bracket under the engine.
47. Remove the crossmember.
48. Move the eight bolts and lower the engine.
NOTE: Make sure the engine does not contact any surfaces when lowered.
49. Disconnect the transmission lines.
50. Remove the bolt from cylinder head.
51. Remove the four bolts from the torque converter.
52. Remove the bolts.
53. Remove the bolts.
54. Remove the engine rear plate.
55. Place the engine on a suitable work stand.
56. Remove the sub-frame from the engine.
57. Remove the engine lifting equipment.
