Drive Belt: Adjustments

NOTE: The drive belt tensioner indicator mark inspection is done with the engine off at 160,000 km (100,000 mile) intervals.

1. Automatic drive belt tensioners are spring-loaded devices which set and maintain the drive belt tension. The drive belt should not require tension adjustment for the life of the drive belt. The drive belt is worn or an incorrect drive belt has been installed if the tab is resting against a stop.





2. Locate the tab on the mounting plate of the drive belt tensioner. The tab should be approximately between the stops of the drive belt tensioner arm.

3 Tab in this area, belt length is incorrect. Replace belt.
4 Tab in this area, belt OK.
5 Tab in this area, belt worn or incorrect length. Replace belt.
