Fuel Pump: Service and Repair
WARNING: Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury.
CAUTION: Fuel supply lines will remain pressurized for long periods of time after engine shut down. This pressure must be relieved before servicing of the fuel system is begun. A valve is provided on the throttle body for this purpose. Remove the air cleaner and relieve system pressure by using Rotunda pressure gauge tool T80L-9974-A or equivalent and drain the system through the drain tube.
REMOVAL
1. Remove the fuel tank.
2. Clean the area around the fuel pump mounting flange.
3. Remove the bolts.
4. Lift the top flange plate so the fuel pump locking tabs are accessible through the fuel pump opening.
5. Reach into the tank, squeeze the tabs together and remove the fuel pump.
CAUTION: Handle the fuel pump carefully to prevent damage to the float arm and filter.
6. Remove and discard the fuel pump mounting gasket.
INSTALLATION
1. Clean the fuel pump mounting flange and the fuel tank mounting surface.
2. Install the fuel pump mounting gasket.
3. Align the pump body with the retainer located on the bottom of the fuel tank and push the fuel pump into the retainer until two clicks are heard.
4. Pull on the fuel pump to make sure it is seated securely.
5. Position the top flange and install the bolts.
6. Install the fuel tank.
