Flow of Diagnosis
1. Verify the customer's concern by operating the power windows/back window defroster to duplicate the concern.2. Inspect to determine if one of the following mechanical or electrical concerns apply:
VISUAL INSPECTION CHART
Mechanical
- Front door window regulator damaged.
- Front door glass hinge side run damaged.
- Front door window glass out of front door glass hinge side run.
- Front door window glass broken.
Electrical
- Circuits open/shorted.
- Loose, corroded connectors.
- Damaged window regulator control switch.
- Damaged window regulator electric drive.
- Damaged fuses power distribution box Fuse 28 (30 A), Fuse 24 (40 A)/fuse junction panel Fuse 41 (10 A), Fuse 28 (10 A).
3. If the inspection reveals obvious concerns that can be readily identified, service as required.
4. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester to the Data Link Connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the NGS menu. If the NGS does not communicate with the vehicle:
- check that the program card is properly installed.
- check the connections to the vehicle.
- check the ignition switch position.
If the NGS still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the New Generation Star Tester manual.
5. Perform the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST using the NGS. If the NGS responds with:
- CKT914 or CKT915 = ALL MODULES NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED, diagnose Multiplex Communication Network concern.
- NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for the Driver Door Module (DDM), go to Pinpoint Test A. A: No Communication With Driver Door Module
- NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for the Steering Column/Ignition/Lighting control module (SCIL), go to Pinpoint Test B. B: No Communication With Steering Column/Ignition/Lighting Control Module
- SYSTEM PASSED for the DDM, retrieve and record the continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, then execute the Self Test Diagnostics for the DDM.
- SYSTEM PASSED for the SCIL, retrieve and record the continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, then execute the Self Test Diagnostics for the SCIL.
6. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Driver Door Module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index or the Steering Column/Ignition/Lighting Control Module (SCIL) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics.
7. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, go to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
