Wiper and Washer Systems: Description and Operation
WIPER SYSTEM
The windshield wiper system has four settings:
- Low Speed (LO)
- High Speed (HI)
- Intermittent (INT)
- Mist (MIST)
The delay is adjustable between one and twenty seconds. Delay time is selected by turning the knob on the multi-function switch and is timed out by the windshield wiper control module.
The windshield wiper motor runs at low speed during intermittent operation.
The windshield wiper motor will operate at low speed as long as the knob is held in MIST.
Upon release of MIST, the switch automatically returns to the OFF position.
Upon release of MIST, the wipers will complete the current cycle and then PARK.
The Steering Column/Ignition/Lighting (SCIL) module monitors the wiper operation. When LO or HI is selected, the SCIL module will turn on the low beam headlamps. This function can be disabled in the VEHICLE SETTINGS in the message center.
WASHER SYSTEM

The windshield washer system operates as follows:
- By pressing the button on the wiper switch end of the multi-function switch.
- In the OFF or INT mode the wipers will run as long as the washer button is pressed.
- In the OFF or INT mode when the washer button is released, the wipers will complete two to three cycles and then return to their previous setting.
- In the LO and HI mode, the wipers will remain at the set speed when the washer button is pressed.
- The LOW WASHER FLUID message will appear in the message center if the washer fluid is low for ten seconds or more.
The fluid level sensor and windshield washer reservoir are replaced as an assembly.
