Dashboard / Instrument Panel: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.

1. Remove the passenger side air bag module. For additional information, refer to Air Bag Systems.
2. If equipped, remove the floor console; refer to Console.
3. If equipped, remove the mini console; refer to Console.







4. If equipped, remove the rear seat climate control air duct sleeve.
5. Remove the steering column; refer to Steering.







6. Release the cable from the parking brake actuator.
1 Release the cable from the parking brake actuator.
2 Release the cable conduit from the parking brake actuator.







7. Disconnect the LH outboard bulkhead electrical connector.
1 Loosen the bolt.
2 Disconnect the LR bulkhead electrical connector.







8. Disconnect the LH inboard bulkhead electrical connector.
1 Loosen the bolt.
2 Disconnect the LH bulkhead electrical connector.







9. If equipped, disconnect the heated seat switch electrical connectors.







10. Remove the steering column mounting support to instrument cowl brace bolts.







11. Remove the instrument panel dash brace to instrument panel bolt.







12. Position the instrument panel dash brace aside.
1 Loosen the nut.
2 Position the instrument panel dash brace aside.







13. Remove the RH instrument panel insulator.
1 Remove the pin-type retamers.
2 Remove the RH instrument panel insulator.
3 Remove the courtesy lamp.







14. Disconnect the vacuum harness connector.







15. Disconnect the in-line electrical harness connector.







16. Position the RH scuff plate aside.







17. Remove the RH cowl trim panel.







18. Disconnect the antenna inline connector.







19. Remove the ignition/shifter interlock cable from the bracket and the shifter interlock cam.







20. Remove the instrument panel defroster opening grille assembly.
1 Lift upward to release the instrument panel defroster opening grille assembly from the instrument panel.
2 Disconnect the two electrical connectors (one each side).
3 Remove the instrument panel defroster opening grille assembly.







21. Remove the instrument panel cowl top screws.







22. Remove the RH instrument panel support to cowl side nut.







23. Remove the LH instrument panel support to cowl side bolts.







24. Loosen the LH instrument panel support to cowl side captive bolt.
25. Position the instrument panel away from the cowl.
- Disconnect the Electronic Air Temperature Control (EATC) hose from the heater plenum.
26. Remove the instrument panel.

NOTE: Two technicians are required to carry out this step.
- Check the cowl top clips for damage, looseness, or stripped fasteners.

INSTALLATION

CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.

1. Position the instrument panel.
- Connect the EATC hose to the heater plenum.

CAUTION: To exchange a loose or damaged cowl top clip with a new clip, remove the metal insert and then carefully release the clip from the cowl Do not pry on the clip or damage to cowl sheet metal may occur.

NOTE:
- To install a new fastener, remove the metal insert from the cowl top clip and exchange it with the new fastener.
- If any portion of the cowl top clip falls into the cowl, use Clear Silicone Rubber D6AZ-19562-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESB-M4G92-A to prevent the broken portion from rattling within the cowl.
- Two technicians are required to carry out this step.







2. Install the instrument panel cowl top screws.







3. Install the instrument panel defroster opening grille assembly.
1 Connect the electrical connectors (one each side).
2 Install the instrument panel defroster opening grille assembly.







4. Install the LH instrument panel support to cowl side bolts.







5. Tighten the LH instrument panel support to cowl side captive bolt.







6. Install the RH instrument panel support to cowl side nut.







7. Install the ignition/shifter interlock cable into the bracket and the shifter interlock cam.







8. Connect the antenna in-line connector.







9. Install the RH cowl trim panel.







10. Install the RH scuff plate.







11. Connect the in-line electrical harness connector.







12. Connect the vacuum harness connector.







13. Install the RH instrument panel insulator.
1 Position the RH instrument panel insulator.
2 Install the pin-type retainers.
- Install the courtesy lamp.







14. Position the instrument panel dash brace.







15. Install the instrument panel dash brace to instrument panel bolt.







16. Install the steering column mounting support to instrument panel cowl brace bolts.







17. Tighten the instrument panel dash brace nut.







18. If equipped, connect the heated seat switch electrical connectors.







19. Connect the LH outboard bulkhead electrical connector.
1 Position the connector.
2 Tighten the bolt.







20. Connect the LH inboard bulkhead electrical connector.
1 Position the connector.
2 Tighten the bolt.







21. Connect the parking brake release handle cable to the parking brake actuator.
1 Install the cable to the parking brake actuator.
2 Install the cable conduit to the parking brake actuator.
22. Install the steering column; refer to Steering.







23. If equipped, install the rear seat climate control duct sleeve.
24. If equipped, install the mini console; refer to Console.
25. If equipped, install the floor console; refer to Console.
26. Install the passenger side air bag modules; refer to Air Bag Systems.
