Mirrors: Description and Operation
Outside Rear View Power Mirrors
The outside rear view mirrors have the following features:
^ electrical operation
^ optional heated mirrors are controlled by the heated back window system
^ available with automatic dimming
^ controlled by the outside rear view mirror control which is located on the front door trim panel.
^ a servo motor that folds the mirrors inward and outward when activated
Inside Rear View Power Mirrors
Automatic Dimming
The inside rear view mirror:
^ is equipped with an automatic dimming feature that controls the inside rear view mirror and the LH outside rear view mirror, if the vehicle is so equipped.
^ houses two sensors to determine dimmer actuation.
^ defaults to normal setting when the transmission is shifted to REVERSE to allow a bright view for backing up.
^ can be switched off by sliding switch to the OFF position.
Mirrors-Driver Seat Module
The Driver Seat Module (DSM) is located under the driver's seat and is attached to the seat frame. The DSM will:
^ control the movements of the power outside rearview mirrors.
^ store and recall mirror positions of two personalized settings.
^ receive all power mirror control inputs from the Driver's Door Module (DDM) through the J1850 communication network.
^ move the outside rearview mirrors downward when the transmission is shifted into reverse, if enabled.
Mirrors-Driver Door Module
The driver's outside rear view mirror control is connected to the driver door module (DDM). The DDM receives the driver's outside rearview mirror switch input and communicates the direction of movement over the J1850 communication network.
Mirrors-Memory
The memory mirror:
^ position is stored in the message center.
^ automatically repositions upon entry by one of the following procedures:
- keyless entry remote transmitter with lockout set to 1 or2.
- keyless entry keypad code stored to position 1 or 2.
- selecting position 1 or 2 on message center.
The message center sends a message to the driver seat module to restore the last mirror position stored for driver 1 or driver 2.
Recall positioning is cancelled by any of the following actions:
^ pressing the outside rear view mirror control.
^ adjusting the driver seat using the seat regulator control switch.
Mirrors-Reverse Drive Rear View
The reverse drive rear view mirror function:
^ tilts the outside rear view mirror motor down to improve visibility of the rear bumper area.
^ is operated by the driver seat module.
^ can be disabled using the message center.
When the reverse drive rear view mirror function is enabled:
^ the driver outside rear view mirror motor tilts down three degrees and the passenger outside rear view mirror motor tilts down five and a half degrees when the ignition switch is in RUN and REVERSE is selected.
^ the outside rear view mirror motor will return to the original setting when shifted out of REVERSE.
^ pressing the outside rear view mirror control will cancel the reverse tilt or the automatic mirror position return if operating.
^ if the transaxle is shifted out of REVERSE and then back into REVERSE within ten seconds, the driver seat module will delay the reverse tilt operation for five seconds.
