RemovalCAUTION: Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital components and systems and their failure can result in major service expense. New fasteners must be installed if the old fasteners are loosened or removed. The new part must have the same part number or be an equivalent part. Do not install a new part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to ensure correct retention of these parts.
1. WARNING: The electrical power to the air suspension system must be shut off prior to hoisting, jacking or towing an air suspension vehicle. Failure to do so can result in unexpected inflation or deflation of the air springs, which can result in shifting of the vehicle during these operations.
Turn the air suspension service switch off.
2. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
3. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
4. Remove the rear disc brake caliper, rear disc support bracket and brake disc. Support the rear disc brake caliper with safety wire.
5. Remove the front hub cap grease seal from the wheel hub.
6. Remove the rear axle wheel hub retainer and discard.
7. Remove the wheel hub from the rear wheel spindle.
Installation
1. Position the wheel hub on the rear wheel spindle.
2. CAUTION: Power tools must not be used to tighten the rear axle wheel hub retainer, or rear wheel bearing damage will result.
Since the rear wheel bearing cannot be adjusted, the rear axle wheel hub retainer must not be backed off after reaching the required torque during installation.
Install a new rear axle wheel hub retainer and tighten the rear axle wheel hub retainer to specification.
3. Install the front hub cap grease seal on the wheel hub.
4. Install the brake disc, rear disc support bracket and the rear disc brake caliper.
5. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Turn the air suspension service switch on.
