Starter Motor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

WARNING: WHEN SERVICING STARTER MOTOR OR PERFORMING ANY MAINTENANCE IN THE AREA OF THE STARTER MOTOR, NOTE THE HEAVY GAUGE INPUT LEAD CONNECTED TO THE STARTER SOLENOID IS ELECTRICALLY HOT AT ALL TIMES. MAKE SURE THE PROTECTIVE CAP IS INSTALLED OVER THE TERMINAL AND IS REPLACED AFTER SERVICE.
2. Raise the vehicle on hoist; refer to Maintenance/Service and Repair.







3. Remove the lower air deflector.
^ Remove the bolts.
^ Remove the lower air deflector.







4. Remove the solenoid safety cap from the starter solenoid.







5. Remove the cables to the starter solenoid and ground stud.







6. Remove the bolt and stud.







7. Remove the starter motor from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION












1. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.
