System Operation
AUTO
When the AUTO button is selected, the DATC system will automatically maintain a selected temperature for vehicle comfort. The DATC system will automatically:
- regulate the air distribution between panel (instrument panel and console) registers, floor (front and rear) and defrost (including demister) outlets.
- heat or cool the air to meet temperature requirements.
- select between fresh and recirculated air.
- regulate the blower speed.
- control the cold air bypass door. The cold air bypass door is opened when the DATC requires substantial cooling and closed during moderate heating and cooling. At 16°C (60°F) temperature set point the electronic actuator will always position the bypass door open. At 32°C (90°F) temperature set point the electronic actuator will always position the bypass door closed.)
The dual temperature zone feature provides:
- the driver and passenger with independent temperature set points using buttons located on each side of the DATC control panel.
- temperature display for both the driver and the passenger.
- temperature control for the driver between 16-32°C (60-90°F) with 0.5°C (1°F) increments between 19-29°C (65-85°F) and a 3°C (5°F) increment at each end of the temperature range.
- temperature control for the passenger limited to between 19-29°C (65-85°F) with 0.5°C (1°F) increments.
- a single display of temperature when the driver selects 16°C or 32°C (60° or 90°F).
Dual zone temperature is achieved by the means of a dual solenoid-operated coolant control valve. The valve individually regulates engine coolant flow to the two sections of the heater core.
OFF
When OFF is selected:
- The inlet air door actuator positions the air inlet door to admit only recirculated air.
- The floor door actuator positions the floor door open.
- All other actuators position doors in the closed position.
- The coolant control valve closes to shut off flow to the heater core.
- The blower motor and the A/C compressor are off.
PANEL
When the panel position is selected the DATC control module commands the:
- panel door/rear seat console door actuator to the fully open position.
- defrost door actuator to the fully closed position.
- floor outlet door actuator to the fully closed position.
- recirc and cold air bypass doors are not affected.
- blower motor on.
Outside air or recirculated air enters the vehicle. The air passes through the evaporator core and the heater core. Air is directed into the passenger compartment through the instrument panel ducts and registers and to the rear seat passengers through the center console ducts and registers.
Pushing the A/C button on the DATC control while in the panel mode will enable or disable the A/C compressor. Air can be cooled or heated by use of the temperature control buttons on the DATC module. The air control doors will remain in position.
Dual zone temperature is achieved by means of a dual solenoid operated coolant control valve. The valve individually regulates engine coolant flow to the two sections of the heater core.
Pushing the recirc button will reposition the air inlet door.
PANEL/FLOOR
When the panel/floor position is selected, the DATC module commands the:
- defrost door actuator to the fully closed position.
- panel door/rear seat console door actuator to a partially open position.
- floor outlet door actuator to the fully open position.
- blower motor on.
Outside air or recirculated air enters the vehicle. The air passes through the evaporator core and the heater core. Air is directed into the passenger compartment through the instrument panel ducts and registers and to the rear seat passengers through the center console ducts and registers and also through the rear floor ducts.
Pushing the A/C button on the DATC control while in the panel/floor mode will enable or disable the A/C compressor. Air can be cooled or heated by use of the temperature control buttons on the DATC module. The air control doors will not move.
Dual zone temperature is achieved by means of a dual solenoid operated coolant control valve. The valve individually regulates engine coolant flow to the two sections of the heater core.
Pushing the recirc button will reposition the air inlet door.
FLOOR
When the floor position is selected, the DATC module commands the:
- air inlet door actuator to admit only outside air.
- defrost door actuator to a partially open position.
- panel door/rear seat console door actuator to the fully closed position.
- floor outlet door actuator to the fully open position.
- blower motor on.
The A/C compressor is disabled when the floor position is selected. The temperature can be adjusted to heat the air, but the air cannot be cooled below the outside temperature.
Outside air or recirculated air enters the vehicle. The air passes through the evaporator core and the heater core. Air is directed into the passenger compartment through the floor ducts and defroster ducts. The panel door is designed to supply a limited amount of air to the outboard panel registers.
Pushing the A/C button on the DATC control while in the floor position will enable or disable the A/C compressor. Air can be cooled or heated by use of the temperature control buttons on the DATC module. The air control doors will not move their position.
Dual zone temperature is achieved by means of a dual solenoid-operated coolant control valve. The valve individually regulates engine coolant flow to the two sections of the heater core.
Pushing the recirc button will reposition the air inlet door. If the recirc button is pushed while in the floor position, the DATC will automatically revert to the outside air position after approximately one to four minutes to prevent window fogging.
FLOOR/DEFROST
When the floor/defrost position is selected, the DATC module commands the:
- air inlet door actuator to admit only outside air.
- defrost door actuator to a partially open position.
- panel door/rear seat console door actuator to the fully closed position.
- floor outlet door actuator to the fully open position.
- blower motor on.
- A/C compressor enabled to dehumidify the air and reduce windshield fogging. The A/C compressor only operates if the outside air temperature is above 0°C (32°F).
Outside air enters the vehicle through the cabin air filter. The air passes through the evaporator core and the heater core. Air is directed into the passenger compartment through the floor and defroster ducts. The panel door is designed to supply a limited amount of air to the outboard panel registers.
Dual zone temperature is achieved by means of a dual solenoid-operated coolant control valve. The valve individually regulates engine coolant flow to the two sections of the heater core.
The A/C button and the recirc button are disabled when the floor/defrost position is selected.
DEFROST
When the defrost position is selected, the DATC module commands the:
- air inlet door actuator to admit only outside air.
- cold air bypass door actuator to the fully closed position.
- defrost door actuator to the fully open position.
- panel door/rear seat console door actuator to the fully closed position.
- floor outlet door actuator to the fully closed position.
Air is directed into the passenger compartment through the defroster nozzle. The panel door is designed to supply a limited amount of air to the outboard panel registers.
Dual zone temperature is achieved by means of a dual solenoid-operated coolant control valve. The valve individually regulates engine coolant flow to the two sections of the heater core.
The A/C button and the recirc button are disabled when the defrost position is selected.
