New Generation Star Tester Diagnostics

1. Connect the New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester to the data link connector located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the NGS menu. If the NGS does not communicate with the vehicle:
^ check that the program card is correctly installed.
^ check the connections to the vehicle.
^ check the ignition switch position.

2. If the NGS still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the New Generation STAR Tester Manual.

NOTE:
^ The ACM must be in AM, FM1, or FM2 mode to enter NGS tester diagnostics.
^ The portable cellular phone system is diagnosed through the ACM.
^ The Cellular Phone Module (CPM) is also referred to as the portable support electronics module.

3. Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If the NGS responds with:
^ CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, refer to Module Communications Network (Information Bus) .
^ NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for Audio Control Module (ACM), go to Pinpoint Test A. Test A: No Communication With Audio Control Module (ACM)
^ NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for CPM, go to Pinpoint Test B. Test B: No Communication With Cellular Phone Module (CPM)
^ SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, and carry out self-test diagnostics for the CPM.

4. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern,
go to the ACM DTC Index ACM Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index

5. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
