ISSUE
A high pitched gear "whine" while driving and/or coasting at low speeds in first or second gear may occur on some vehicles. This noise is caused by the mesh of the planetary gearset.
ACTION
Follow normal diagnostic procedures. If diagnosis shows that the components listed in the Noise/Vibration Routine are good, replace the forward planetary gearset and attaching components. Check Powertrain Control Module (PCM) calibration for latest level. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
CAUTION: ALL COMPONENTS FOUND IN THE SERVICE KIT MUST BE USED. FAILURE TO USE ALL KIT COMPONENTS AND REPROGRAM THE PCM (IF REQUIRED) MAY NOT ELIMINATE THE GEAR NOISE CONCERN, GENERATING A REPEAT REPAIR.
1. Follow normal diagnostic procedures as found in the current CD-ROM or Workshop Manual under Diagnosis by Symptom - Noise/Vibration. If diagnosis shows that the components listed in the Noise/Vibration Routine are good, follow the current published procedures for disassembly and reassembly and replace the forward planetary gearset and attaching components using new Service Kit YW4Z-7A398-SA.
2. Make sure that the vehicle has the latest PCM calibration level. If the vehicle does not have the latest calibration, reprogram the PCM.
