Dashboard / Instrument Panel: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Remove the steering column; refer to Steering.
2. Remove the passenger side air bag module; refer to Air Bag Systems.







3. Through the glove compartment opening, remove the instrument panel brace bolts.







4. Through the glove compartment opening, remove the instrument panel support brace bolt.
5. Close the glove compartment door.
6. Remove the windshield washer reservoir; refer to Wiper and Washer Systems.







7. Position the speed control servo aside.
1 Remove the nuts.
2 Position the speed control servo aside.







8. Disconnect the LH bulkhead connector.
1 Loosen the bolt.
2 Disconnect the LH bulkhead connector.







9. Unclip the LH bulkhead connector from the dash panel.







10. Disconnect the blower motor electrical connector.







11. Disconnect the A/C pressure cut-off switch electrical connector.







12. Disconnect the in-line wiring harness connector.







13. Disconnect the electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) variable blower motor controller electrical connector.
14. Remove the RH front wheel and tire assembly.






15. Remove the front fender splash shield bolts.







16. Position the front fender splash shield away from the dash panel.







17. Unclip the wiring harness from the evaporator case.







18. Unclip the wiring harness from the dash panel.
19. Lower the vehicle.







20. Lower the RH instrument panel lower insulator.
1 Remove the pin-type retainers.
2 Lower the RH instrument panel lower insulator.







21. Remove the RH instrument panel lower insulator.
1 Disconnect the power point electrical connector.
2 Remove the courtesy lamp from the lamp socket.
3 Remove the RH instrument panel lower insulator.







22. Unseat the wiring grommet and feed the wiring harness through the dash panel.







23. Remove the LH and RH A-pillar lower trim panels.







24. Remove the LH and RH windshield side garnish moldings.







25. Disconnect the Electronic Crash Sensor (ECS) module electrical connector.
1 Disconnect the locking clip.
2 Disconnect the electrical connector.







26. Disconnect the antenna cable in-line connector.







27. Remove the RH ground bolts.







28. Disconnect the EATC hose from the evaporator housing.







29. Disconnect the RH bulkhead connector.
1 Loosen the bolt.
2 Disconnect the RH bulkhead connector.







30. Position the LH and RH door weatherstrip seals away from the instrument panel.







31. Remove the tunnel brace trim cover.







32. Disconnect the climate control bead vacuum harness connector.







33. Remove the instrument panel tunnel brace.
1 Remove the nuts.
2 Remove the instrument panel tunnel brace.







34. Remove the LH ground bolts.







35. Disconnect the LH wiring harness connectors.







36. Disconnect the parking brake switch electrical connector.







37. Remove the instrument panel defroster opening grille.
1 Unclip the instrument panel defroster opening grille from the instrument panel.
2 Disconnect the electrical connectors.
3 Remove the instrument panel defroster opening grille.







38. Remove the three instrument panel cowl top screws.







39. Remove the RH instrument panel cowl side nut.







40. Remove the upper LH instrument panel cowl side nut.







41. Remove the lower LH instrument panel cowl side bolt.
42. Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.

NOTE: Removing the instrument panel from the vehicle requires an assistant.

INSTALLATION
1. Install the instrument panel into the vehicle.

NOTE: Installation of the instrument panel into the vehicle requires an assistant.







2. Install the lower LH instrument panel cowl side bolt.







3. Install the upper LH instrument panel cowl side nut.







4. Install the RH instrument panel cowl side nut.







5. Install the three instrument panel cowl top screws.







6. Install the instrument panel defroster opening grille.
1 Position the instrument panel defroster opening grille.
2 Connect the electrical connectors.
3 Install the instrument panel defroster opening grille.







7. Connect the parking brake switch electrical connector.







8. Connect the LH wiring harness connectors.







9. Install the LH ground bolts.







10. Install the instrument panel tunnel brace.
1 Position the instrument panel tunnel brace.
2 Install the nuts.







11. Connect the climate control head vacuum harness connector.







12. Install the tunnel brace trim cover.







13. Install the LH and RH door weatherstrip seals.







14. Connect the RH bulkhead connector.
1 Connect the bulkhead connector.
2 Tighten the bolt.







15. Connect the EATC hose to the evaporator housing.







16. Install the RH ground bolts.







17. Connect the antenna cable in-line connector.







18. Connect the ECS module electrical connector.
1 Connect the electrical connector.
2 Install the locking clip.







19. Install the LH and RH windshield side garnish moldings.







20. Install the LH and RH A-pillar lower trim panels.







21. Feed the wiring harness through the dash panel and seat the wiring grommet.







22. Position the RH instrument panel lower insulator.
1 Position the RH instrument panel lower insulator.
2 Connect the power point electrical connector.
3 Install the courtesy lamp into the lamp socket.







23. Install the RH instrument panel lower insulator.
1 Install the RH instrument panel lower insulator.
2 Install the pin-type retainers.
24. Raise the vehicle.







25. Clip the wiring harness into the dash panel.







26. Clip the wiring harness into the evaporator case.







27. Install the front fender splash shield. Install the bolts.
28. Install the RH front wheel and tire assembly.






29. Connect the EATC variable blower motor controller electrical connector.







30. Connect the in-line wiring harness connector.







31. Connect the A/C pressure cut-off switch electrical connector.







32. Connect the blower motor electrical connector.
33. Install the windshield washer reservoir; refer to Wiper and Washer Systems.







34. Clip the LH bulkhead connector into the dash panel.







35. Connect the LH bulkhead connector.
1 Connect the LH bulkhead connector.
2 Tighten the bolt.







36. Install the speed control servo.
1 Install the speed control servo.
2 Install the nuts.
37. Open the glove compartment door.







38. Through the glove compartment opening, install the instrument panel support brace bolt.







39. Through the glove compartment opening, install the instrument panel brace bolts.
40. Install the passenger side air bag module; refer to Air Bag Systems.
41. Install the steering column; refer to Steering.
