WARNING:
- THE INERTIA FRONT SEAT BACKREST LATCH ASSEMBLY IS FACTORY-INSTALLED IN ITS CORRECT LOCATION. CUSTOMER OR DEALER MAINTENANCE IS NOT REQUIRED. CORRECT FRONT SEAT BACKREST LATCH FUNCTION IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS REQUIRES THAT THE SEAT BACKREST BE IN ITS FULL REARWARD NORMAL POSITION AND AGAINST THE REARWARD STOPS IN THE FRONT SEAT BACKREST LATCH ASSEMBLY. THEREFORE, THE AREA BEHIND THE SEAT MUST BE KEPT CLEAR AT ALL TIMES TO ALLOW FULL REARWARD TRAVEL OF THE SEAT BACKREST. IN ADDITION, REAR SEAT PASSENGERS SHOULD NOT LEAN ON THE FRONT SEAT BACKRESTS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THE FORWARD FORCE ON THE SEAT BACKREST FROM THE REAR PASSENGER IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION CAN PREVENT CORRECT OPERATION OF THE INERTIA FRONT SEAT BACKREST LATCH MECHANISM.
- THE RESTRAINT SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC TOOL IS FOR RESTRAINT SYSTEM SERVICE ONLY. REMOVE FROM VEHICLE PRIOR TO ROAD USE. FAILURE TO REMOVE COULD RESULT IN INJURY AND POSSIBLE VIOLATION OF VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS.
- ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN REPAIRING AN AIR BAG SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) VEHICLE AND WHEN HANDLING AN AIR BAG MODULE. THIS WILL REDUCE THE RISK OF INJURY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT.
- AFTER DEPLOYMENT, THE AIR BAG SURFACE CAN CONTAIN DEPOSITS OF SODIUM HYDROXIDE, A PRODUCT OF THE GAS GENERANT COMBUSTION THAT IS IRRITATING TO THE SKIN. WASH YOUR HANDS WITH SOAP AND WATER AFTERWARDS.
- TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY, THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE REPAIRING OR REPLACING ANY FRONT OR SIDE AIR BAG SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) COMPONENTS AND BEFORE SERVICING, REPLACING, ADJUSTING OR STRIKING COMPONENTS NEAR THE FRONT OR SIDE AIR BAG SENSORS, SUCH AS DOORS, INSTRUMENT PANEL, CONSOLE, DOOR LATCHES, STRIKERS, SEATS AND HOOD LATCHES.

THE SIDE AIR BAG SENSORS ARE LOCATED AT OR NEAR THE BASE OF THE B-PILLAR.

TO DEPLETE THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE AND WAIT AT LEAST ONE MINUTE. BE SURE TO DISCONNECT AUXILIARY BATTERIES AND POWER SUPPLIES (IF SO EQUIPPED).

- ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN REPAIRING AN AIR BAG SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) VEHICLE AND WHEN HANDLING AN AIR BAG MODULE. THIS WILL REDUCE THE RISK OF INJURY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT.
- AFTER DEPLOYMENT, THE AIR BAG SURFACE CAN CONTAIN DEPOSITS OF SODIUM HYDROXIDE, A PRODUCT OF THE GAS GENERANT COMBUSTION THAT IS IRRITATING TO THE SKIN. WASH YOUR HANDS WITH SOAP AND WATER AFTERWARDS.
- THE RETAINING WIRES IN THE REAR SEAT CUSHION PAD AND FRAME AND THE REAR SEAT BACKREST PAD AND FRAME BACK MUST BE FULLY SEATED IN THE RETAINER BRACKETS TO PREVENT THE SEAT BACKREST AND SEAT CUSHION FROM SLIDING FORWARD IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAN RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.
- CARRY A LIVE SIDE AIR BAG MODULE WITH THE AIR BAG AND TEAR SEAM POINTED AWAY FROM YOUR BODY. THIS WILL REDUCE THE RISK OF INJURY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT.
- DO NOT SET A LIVE SIDE AIR BAG MODULE DOWN ON THE COVER TEAR SEAM. THIS WILL REDUCE THE RISK OF INJURY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT.
- NEVER PROBE THE CONNECTORS ON THE AIR BAG MODULE. DOING SO CAN RESULT IN AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, WHICH CAN RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.
- BEFORE INSTALLING THE SIDE AIR BAG MODULE, CHECK IT FOR DAMAGE AND FOREIGN OBJECTS. IF THE AIR BAG MODULE IS DAMAGED, REPLACE IT. IF ANY FOREIGN OBJECTS ARE FOUND, REMOVE THEM. FAILURE TO DO SO CAN RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY IN THE EVENT OF AN AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT.
- VEHICLE SENSOR ORIENTATION IS CRITICAL FOR CORRECT SYSTEM OPERATION. IF A VEHICLE EQUIPPED WITH AN AIR BAG SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) IS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION, INSPECT THE SENSOR MOUNTING BRACKET AND WIRING PIGTAIL FOR DEFORMATION. REPLACE AND CORRECTLY POSITION THE SENSOR OR ANY OTHER DAMAGED SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) COMPONENTS WHETHER OR NOT THE AIR BAG IS DEPLOYED.
- THE DEPLOYMENT SEAM CANNOT BE REPAIRED OR RESEWN. A TRIM COVER REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF THE BOLSTER OR SIDE FACING MUST BE REPLACED AS A UNIT. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAN RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.
- CHECK THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT CHUTE AND ZIPPER FOR DAMAGE. THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT CHUTE AND ZIPPER MUST NOT BE REPAIRED. IF THERE IS ANY DAMAGE TO THE DEPLOYMENT CHUTE OR ZIPPER, A NEW SEAT BACK TRIM COVER AND DEPLOYMENT CHUTE MUST BE INSTALLED NEW AS A UNIT.
- IF THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT CHUTE IS NOT CORRECTLY POSITIONED AND COMPLETELY ZIPPED, THE SIDE AIR BAG CAN NOT DEPLOY CORRECTLY.
- INSPECT THE MOUNTING SURFACES OF THE SIDE AIR BAG MODULE AND THE SEAT BACK FRAME MOUNTING BRACKET FOR ANY FOREIGN OBJECTS BEFORE INSTALLING THE SIDE AIR BAG MODULE. IF ANY FOREIGN OBJECTS ARE FOUND, REMOVE THEM. FAILURE TO DO SO CAN RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY IN THE EVENT OF AN AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT.
- INSPECT THE SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT CHUTE AND THE SIDE AIR BAG CAVITY IN THE SEAT BACK PAD FOR ANY FOREIGN OBJECTS AND REMOVE. IF ANY FOREIGN OBJECTS ARE FOUND, REMOVE THEM. FAILURE TO DO SO CAN RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY IN THE EVENT OF AN AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT.
- IF THE AIR BAG COVER HAS SEPARATED OR THE AIR BAG MATERIAL HAS BEEN EXPOSED, INSTALL A NEW SIDE AIR BAG MODULE. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE AIR BAG MODULE. FAILURE TO DO SO CAN RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY IN THE EVENT OF AN AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT.
