Oil Pump: Service and Repair

Oil Pan, Oil Pump, Oil Pump Screen and Pickup Tube





Special Tool(s)

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Remove the radiator upper sight shield.
3. Remove the air cleaner assembly.





4. Install the special tools.
5. Remove the steering gear.
6. Remove the RH front splash shield, the LH front splash shield, and the front center splash shield.
7. Remove the generator.
8. Remove the A/C compressor.
9. Drain the engine oil.





10. To remove individual components, only carry out the listed steps.

13. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Item 4: Oil Pan Removal Note





1. Remove the eight bolts and the two front braces.





2. Remove the LH lower control arm through-bolt.





3. Remove the RH lower control arm through-bolt.





4. NOTE: LH shown; RH similar.

Remove the LH and RH engine mount nuts.





5. Remove the LH subframe bolts.





6. Remove the RH subframe bolts.





7. Gently pry the subframe down and remove the oil pan.

Item 5: Oil Pan Gasket Removal Note

1. CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make levels paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of gasket material.

Discard the oil pan gasket.

Items 3, 4, and 5: Oil Pan Fasteners, Oil Pan, and Oil Pan Gasket Installation Note





1. CAUTION: The oil pan must be installed and the bolts tightened within four minutes of the sealant application.

Apply a 10 mm (0.40 inch) dot of silicone gasket and sealant to the oil pan gasket in the indicated positions





2. Gently prey the subframe down and install the oil pan





3. NOTE: Fasteners No 4 and No 9 are studs.

Position the oil pan and install the studs and bolts
- Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown





4. Install the RH subframe bolts





5. Install the LH subframe bolts.





6. NOTE: LH shown; RH similar.

Install the LH and RH engine mount nuts.





7. Install the RH lower control arm through-bolt.





8. Install the LH lower control arm through-bolt.





9. Install the eight bolts and the two front I-braces.
