Ignition Switch and Multifunction Switch

Inspection and Verification
1. Verify the customer's concern by operating the ignition switch and the multifunction switch on the steering column.





2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.

NOTE: For multifunction switch concerns, refer to one of the following:
^ Exterior Lighting.
^ Wipers and Washers.

3. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
^ check that the program card is correctly installed.
^ check the connections to the vehicle.
^ check the ignition switch position.
4. Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
^ CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, refer to Module Communications Network for the front electronic module (FEM).
5. If DTCs are present, refer to FEM related DTCs, for ICM related DTCs, refer to further diagnostics.
6. If no DTCs are present, GO to Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics. Steering Column Switches
