Oil Pump: Service and Repair

Oil Pan, Oil Pump, Oil Pump Screen and Pickup Tube

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Drain the engine oil.




3. Remove the components in the order indicated in the illustration and table. To remove individual components, only carry flout the listed steps.

4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Item 1: Oil Pan Bolts Removal Note





1. NOTE: LH is shown, RH is similar.

Remove the bolts.





2. NOTE: LH is shown, RH is similar.

Remove the bolts and the lateral support bar.

Items 4 and 5: Oil Pump Screen and Pickup Tube Removal Note





1. CAUTION: Only use hand tools to remove the oil pump screen and pickup tube.

Remove the bolts and the oil pump screen and pickup tube.
^ Inspect the O-ring seal and install a new one if necessary.

Items 6-8: Oil Pump Removal Note
1. Remove the timing drive components.





2. Remove the bolts and the oil pump.
^ Discard the gasket.





3. CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges, which make leaks paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of sealant.

Clean the sealing surfaces.

Items 6-8: Oil Pump Installation Note





1. Install a new gasket.





2. Install the oil pump and tighten the bolts in two stages.
^ Stage 1: Tighten to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.).
^ Stage 2: Tighten an additional 90 degrees.

3. Install the timing drive components.

Items 4 and 5: Oil Pump Screen and Pickup Tube Installation Note





1. NOTE: Apply clean engine oil to the O-ring seal prior to installing.

Install the oil pump screen and pickup tube.

Items 1-3: Oil Pan Installation Note





1. NOTE: Make sure all gasket sealing surfaces are clean and dry.

Install a new oil pan gasket and the oil pan. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in two stages.
^ Stage 1: Tighten to 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.).
^ Stage 2: Tighten to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.).

Position the lateral support bars and install the bolts.

Install the bolts.
4. Fill the crankcase with clean engine oil.
