Attachment III - Technical Information

OVERVIEW

This procedure involves the removal of all four (4) chrome wheel and tire assemblies to check the heat treat (HI) lot code on the wheel. The code is located on the back of the third spoke counter-clockwise from the valve stem when viewing the wheel from the inside. Wheels with the heat treat lot code B1706 must be replaced.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

2. View the wheel from the inside and locate the third spoke counter-clockwise from the valve stem.

3. Clean the back side of the third spoke so the heat treat lot code can be read.

4. Perform steps 2 and 3 on each road wheel and read the heat treat lot code on each wheel.

(NOTE: Spare wheel is not involved). If the heat treat lot code is not readable, call the Special Service Support Center at 1-800-325-5621 for direction.

5. Any wheel containing the heat treat lot code B1706 must be replaced. See Figure 1.
