Test B

PINPOINT TEST B: THE CHARGING SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR IS ON WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING (THE CHARGING SYSTEM VOLTAGE DOES NOT INCREASE)

Test B1:

Test B2-B3:

Normal Operation
With the engine running, the charging system warning indicator is off. The A-circuit 30-BA25 (RD) is 13-15V. The generator regulator compares the A-circuit voltage to an internal set point voltage to determine when to operate. This duty cycle is output to the PCM on the GENMON terminal 8-BA25 (WH/RD). In the case of failure, the GENMON terminal will be 0% (0V), or 100% duty cycle (12-14V). The I-circuit 10-BA25 (GY/RD) is 1-8V with engine running and is only used to turn the generator on initially. The B+ output circuit 30-BA6 (RD) is the generator output supplied to the battery and the electrical system.

Possible Causes
- generator B+ output circuit 30-BA6 (RD) open or high resistance
- I circuit 10-BA25 (GY/RD) open or shorted to ground
- generator
- PCM
