System Specifications

Cylinder Head

NOTE: The cylinder head bolts are a torque to yield design and must not be reused. Always use new bolts.






Stage 1: Tighten to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).
Stage 2: Rotate 90 degrees.
Stage 3: Back out a minimum of one full turn (360 degrees).
Stage 4: Tighten to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).
Stage 5: Rotate 90 degrees.
Stage 6: Rotate all bolts an additional 90 degrees.

Head gasket surface flatness 0.025 - 0.050 mm (0.0009 - 0.0019 inch)
Head gasket surface finish 0.12 mm (0.004 inch)
Front upper intake manifold support bracket bolts 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.)
Front upper intake manifold support bracket nut 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.)

Intake Manifold






Tighten the upper intake manifold bolts in the sequence shown to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).

Lower intake manifold bolts 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).






Tighten in the sequence shown to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).

Exhaust Manifold




Right Hand




Left Hand

Stage 1: Tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
Stage 2: Tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).

Camshaft Bearing






Tighten the 16 bolts in the sequence shown to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).

Camshaft Sprockets
LH and RH Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) actuator
Install a new bolt hand tight. Use a wrench on the flats of the camshaft to hold it in position and tighten the bolt in 2 stages.
^ Stage 1: Tighten the VCT actuator bolt to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
^ Stage 2: Tighten an additional 90 degrees.

LH and RH exhaust camshaft sprocket
Install a new bolt hand tight. Using a wrench on the flats of the camshaft, hold the camshaft in position and tighten the bolt in 2 stages.
^ Stage 1: Tighten the exhaust camshaft sprocket bolt to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
^ Stage 2: Tighten an additional 90 degrees.
