ISSUE
Some 2005 LS and Thunderbird vehicles may exhibit an inoperative blower motor condition.
ACTION
It may be necessary to replace the blower motor speed controller. Refer to the following Service Procedure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
NOTE
THE NEW BLOWER SPEED CONTROLLER USED FOR TESTING IN THIS TSB PROCEDURE MAY BE CHARGED AGAINST THE REPAIR CLAIM WITHOUT INSTALLATION, IF IT IS NOT THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE CONCERN.
1. With the ignition key off, disconnect the blower motor speed controller C297. Connect a 30 amp fused jumper lead between C297 Pin-1 (Circuit 315-FA18) and Pin-2 (Circuit 31-FA45) (Figure 1), then turn the ignition key on.
a. If the blower does not operate, follow normal diagnostics in Workshop Manual Section 412-00 pinpoint test N.
b. If blower does operate, obtain a new blower motor speed controller. With the key on and the dual automatic temperature control (DATC) off, plug the new blower motor speed controller into Connector C297, turn on DATC.
NOTE
TO PREVENT DAMAGING THE NEW BLOWER SPEED CONTROLLER, DO NOT LEAVE THE NEW CONTROLLER PLUGGED IN OR ALLOW THE DATC TO OPERATE FOR MORE THAN 2 MINUTES. THE CONTROLLER REQUIRES AIRFLOW FOR COOLING.
(1) If the blower now operates install the new blower speed controller. Verify operation.
(2) If the blower still does not operate, follow normal diagnostics in Workshop Manual Section 412-00 pinpoint test N.
