Sunroof / Moonroof: Description and Operation

ROOF OPENING PANEL

The roof opening panel consists of the following components:
- roof opening panel
- roof opening panel glass
- roof opening panel control switch
- roof opening panel covers
- roof opening panel motor/module
- roof opening panel shield
- trough assembly

The roof opening panel is available as an option.

The system operates in the following manner:
- When the roof opening panel control switch is rocked rearward, the roof opening glass slides into the storage space between the headliner and the roof opening panel, exposing an opening over the front seats.
- Momentarily pressing then releasing the roof opening panel control switch will activate the one-touch opening feature. The roof opening panel will slide fully rearward automatically. Pressing the roof opening panel control switch with the roof opening panel moving will cancel the one-touch operation.
- When the roof opening panel control switch is rocked forward with the roof opening panel glass fully back in the storage space, the roof opening panel glass moves forward from the storage position.

Near the end of the forward travel, the rear portion of the roof opening panel glass moves upward on 2 lifter arms. This allows a weather-tight seal when the roof opening panel glass is closed.
- When the roof opening panel control switch is rocked forward with the roof opening panel glass fully forward, the rear of the roof opening panel glass opens to the VENT position.
- With the roof opening panel glass in the VENT position, rocking the roof opening panel control switch rearward closes the roof opening panel glass.
- The roof opening panel shield is manually slid forward and backward to cover the opening when the roof opening panel glass is in the flush position. If the roof opening panel glass is in the forward position when the roof opening panel control switch is rocked rearward, the roof opening panel shield will be dragged rearward by the roof opening panel glass.
- The roof opening panel control module provides the logic for the roof opening panel operation.
- The roof opening panel control switch is not repairable and is part of the message center module. For removal and installation, refer to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
